Candyland is a sativa-dominant hybrid originally bred in the San Francisco area. The strain is a combination of the Grand Daddy Purple indica and the Bay Platinum Cookies hybrid. It was cultivated by Ken Estes, a breeder that became well-known in the state of California after his creation of Grandaddy Purple.

Overview of Candyland

Candyland carries a potency of about 19% THC with little to no CBD content. Like other sativas, the strain produces an uplifting mental high that is good for daytime social activities or creative work. Though it is not known for producing an elaborate body high, consumers report feelings of relaxation after consuming Candyland.

Candyland was gold medalist at the 2012 KushCon in Denver.

Potential Positive Effects of Candyland

The effects of Candyland can be described as uplifting, stimulating and upbeat. The mind stays focused and clear, making Candyland a good strain to experience while getting work done or engaging in social activities. It can be used as a good afternoon pick-me-up, creating a relaxed mental state without excessive drowsiness.

Potential Negative Effects of Candyland

In some cases, Candyland smokers experience the typical cannabis side effects of dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness. In large doses, Candyland could also cause anxiety and paranoia, so novice smokers should consider refraining from inhaling a full joint until they understand how the strain will affect them, personally.

Lineage of Candyland

Ken Estes' creation of Candyland builds upon the success of Grandaddy Purple and provides a sativa-dominant hybrid to complement the indica of GDP. Each flavor and scent can change from phenotype to phenotype, depending on exactly how the Candyland is bred. Growers have a reasonable degree of control over which parent their brand of Candyland should more heavily emulate.

Looking back further into Candyland's genetics, its father Grandaddy Purple is a cross-breed of Big Bud and Purple Urkle, while Bay Platinum Cookies combines a Platinum Cookies phenotype with the Bay 11 sativa.

Growing Candyland

Buds of Candyland range from a slightly dark shade of green to almost fully purple. The pistils are gold-colored and the flower can be covered in trichomes that add a nice white shimmer. Candyland's taste is part sweet, part earthy with subtle hints of spice. Its aroma reflects the taste, combining the berry-like scent of its father Grandaddy Purple with the more earthy smell of the Bay Platinum Cookies plant.

Candyland can be grown both indoors and outdoors. Its flowering period is eight to nine weeks for an indoor grow, resulting between two and three ounces of bud per plant. Outdoor growers can expect a harvest in September, with each plant producing about three pounds of bud.

Where To Find Candyland

Candyland remains popular in its home state of California as well as dispensaries across Oregon and Washington.
