Sativa Hybrid

Strawberry Fields x Haze

Strawberry Cough Strain

Strawberry Cough is a sativa-dominant hybrid that was brought into being in Los Angeles when chance led to the breeding of Strawberry Fields and Haze. The name says it all: this bud smells like strawberry and smokes like berries and cream. Each puff expands in your throat and lungs, lending credence to the “cough” in its title. Once it gets in your system, Strawberry Cough takes hold and presents a delightfully euphoric head high, perfect for combatting depression, stress, or anxiety.

Overview of Strawberry Cough

At first whiff, it is clear that this bud will prove to be a delicious smoke. An obvious strawberry aroma floats off of the flower, enticing smokers to grind it up and light it. Once inhaled, the berry-flavored smoke from Strawberry Cough expands in the lungs and throat, leaving even veteran cannabis users with the urge to cough.

First discovered by Buds and Roses LA, this strain was named Strain of the Year by High Times in 2005. It only takes a couple of hits - and a couple of minutes as you catch your breath from coughing - to understand why.

Potential Positive Effects

With a THC content between 15 and 20 percent, Strawberry Cough leaves users with a euphoric and uplifting cerebral high and offers a relaxing physical effect as well. Although these effects are not as immediate as some strains, Strawberry Cough is likely to make it to the top of your list of favorites by bringing out feelings of happiness, relaxation, and even a boost in energy.

Potential Medical Effects

Strawberry Cough is used by medical marijuana patients for its potential as an aid in depression and anxiety, as well as pain and nausea. Simply put, it may help to relax the mind and even encourage a stronger focus.

Potential Negative Effects

While the high may be uplifting, it can come with some minor downsides. Dry eyes, dizziness, and paranoia have been reported by users as potential negatives.

Lineage of Strawberry Cough

Strawberry Cough is a cross between Strawberry Fields (a pure indica strain) and Haze (a straight sativa), resulting in an 80% sativa dominant hybrid. The buds are tight, slim, and conical.

Their colors are certainly fetching, a mixture of leaf-green with a purple tint and orange hairs. A light smattering of crystals can be seen if you look closely.

Growing Strawberry Cough

Growing Strawberry Cough is relatively simple. You must have clipping shears and a healthy, mature plant to begin with. As it turns out, this strain was originally created from clones, and therefore cannot reproduce. If you are intent on growing from a seed, check out Dutch Passion, a seed bank based in Amsterdam that has developed its own version of the strain.

In general, the plants grow up to one meter in height and tend to be bushy. Strawberry Cough plants prefer very warm and sunny climates. Indoors, plants that are given plenty of sunlight and a toasty climate will flower within 7 to 9 weeks and produce average yields of 400 grams per meter squared.

Outdoors, plants are ready for harvest in late October and will yield up to 14 ounces of bud per plant. These outdoor plants prefer hot, humid, and borderline tropical environments. Conveniently, this strain is particularly resistant to most common molds and pests.

Where to find Strawberry Cough

Although it was first introduced in Los Angeles and indeed can still be found there, Strawberry Cough has not yet made its way into the rest of California. However, it can be found further up north. In fact, this popular strain is available in many different cities within the states of Washington and Oregon. It has also begun to pop up in cities like Denver and Detroit.
