Afghani is known best as one of the oldest strains on Earth originating in Afghanistan, specifically the Hindu Kush mountains. This area is home to the mountainous region where humans first tamed wild cannabis thousands of years ago. While there are no 'pure' sativas or indicas anymore, the Afghani strain is nearly identical in genetics to the pure strain of the same name from long ago.

It has become one of the most popular strains on the West Coast, British Columbia, and Colorado, reaching nearly legendary status along with strains like Blue Dream and AK47. However, it isn't as potent as one might expect a strain this old to be. Typically THC levels top out at around 17%, and CBD levels are typically less than 1%.

The percentages may be low, but this strain is powerful enough to deliver a deep, sedated body high and a strong euphoric feeling that brings on a general sense of happiness and wellbeing. This nearly-pure indica is a parent strain to countless hybrid strains around the world, most of which are very popular sleep aids.

Afghani, also known as Afghan Kush is best used to treat anxiety and chronic pain because of its heavy indica properties. It's also excellent for insomnia because the most powerful effect of this strain is a sedated body high that will help you relax and ease into sleep. It also shows promise treating depression and other mental illnesses caused by chemical imbalances. It will also give you a case of the munchies, which is great for people suffering from the effects of chemotherapy and other medications that cause a decrease in appetite.

This strain is very sweet on the tongue and has a very pungent and earthy smell. When selecting your buds, look for flowers that are tightly packed and covered in trichomes. They should be light or medium green in color with orange hairs and frosty.

Smoking Afghani will provide a deeply relaxed high with a mood boost and a sense of euphoria. Medical patients find it best to use at night since it is a heavy hitting indica and induces sleep. It can dry you out, though, so be sure to stay hydrated. It commonly causes dry mouth and eyes, but can also cause headaches if you aren't properly hydrated. Make sure you have snacks around, too, because you'll want to eat after smoking.

If you're considering adding Afghani to your home medicine garden, you don't need to think twice. This strain is very easy for beginners due to its excellent growth under many different conditions. It produces fat sticky colas that are loaded with THC, and are great indoors or outdoors because they grow outwards instead of upwards. Keep in mind that because of this, she will need to be trimmed and pruned often to keep her growing healthily. She also has a very pungent, almost skunky smell, so make sure to take precautions to keep your grow room or greenhouse smell-free.

You can expect this strain to take effect quickly and relax with ease. Afghani doesn't need much help from a caretaker, as long as you are meeting necessary light, water, and nutrient requirements. You can expect flowering to take place between 8 to 10 weeks and harvest shortly after. The yield should be around 14 ounces per plant.
