This award-winning diesel strain is a powerhouse of creative and uplifting effects. The sativa-dominant strain provides a cerebral high that fades into a physical relaxation. This strain's trademark scent is a strong diesel smell made appealing by notes of grapefruit and lime. It can be difficult to grow due to its size and preference for outdoor growth.

Overview of NYC Diesel

NYC Diesel is an energizing strain coming in at 60% sativa. The story goes that Soma himself was given the seeds for NYC Diesel while visiting a friend in the Big Apple. The friend reported that these seeds produced the best cannabis he had ever experienced. Soma decided to keep and grow them.

With a little development, he went on to popularize the NYC Diesel we have today. It was developed by Soma Seeds in the 1990s and won first place in the High Times Cannabis Cup sativa category in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004.

Additionally, NYC Diesel has made it into the Cannabis Cup top ten strains list several times.

Potential Positive Effects

NYC Diesel is a go-to for creative individuals seeking stress reduction. The primary effect is an uplifting one, accompanied by a nice surge of energy. The energetic and happy high make this strain an excellent one for socialization.

In addition to this peppy effect, NYC Diesel expands into physiological effects as time passes. A mild body high provides a gentle sensation around the body, though for those who are inexperienced or smoke too much, this can result in a need to sit down or even take a nap.

Potential Negative Effects

While this strain does not usually facilitate paranoia or racing thoughts, it can cause some cotton mouth - so be sure to have hydration on hand. You can also expect a mild case of the munchies, so this is a good strain for those who may need an appetite boost but don't want to clean out the pantry every time they smoke.

Lineage of NYC Diesel

The strain is a cross between Afghani and Mexican landrace sativas. It produces large buds, densely packed with sticky white trichomes. Regarding scent, this strain definitely contains that sharp fuel scent associated with Diesel and packs some serious pungency.

You'll find those scents are paired with bright notes of grapefruit and lime. Their citrus aromas keep the diesel and pungency from being overpowering and provide an irresistible tartness to the scent.

Growing NYC Diesel

Though NYC Diesel is undoubtedly a gem of a strain, it is unfortunately fairly difficult to grow at home. This is in part due to the plant's extreme height - with mature plants topping out at around 12 feet.

Without regular and skilled trimming, these plants can grow too tall for their growing space. Even when grown outdoors the height these plants grow can become an issue. A plant that is too heavy at the crown will simply topple over.

When grown indoors, NYC Diesel has a flowering time of 10 to 12 weeks and can yield up to 14 ounces of beautiful buds. Outdoors, this strain prefers a warm climate and will be ready for complete harvest come early November.

You can expect up to 12 ounces from an outdoor grow.
