Twenty-nine states and the District of Columbia have currently legalized marijuana in some form, and Michigan is one of the states with legal medical marijuana. However, recreational marijuana in Michigan is not yet legal, although many people speculate that the state may be the next state to legalize recreational marijuana

Support the National Cannabis Industry Association

October 13, 2017

National Cannabis Industry Association LogoCompanies in the legal weed business support the National Cannabis Industry Association in droves, thanks to its relentless effort to push for fairness in marijuana laws, regulations, and business practices. The Washington, D.C. based not-for-profit organization has been a headache for anti-cannabis forces in the White House and at Capitol Hill since 2010, and its operation is picking up steam with the gradual movement toward full legalization.

West Virginia Cannabis Laws

September 5, 2017

West Virginia Marijuana LawWhat comes to mind when you think of West Virginia? To me, West Virginia is a region where hard, blue-collar work is ingrained in the culture. To some, it may appear to be “stuck in time,” meaning that the state has yet to become fully modernized as it clings to a nostalgia of the past. As of now, the state’s economy mostly relies on energy extraction, with coal and natural gas being the focal point of its economy. However, the state’s looking for other economic options because these resources will eventually run out.

Ohio MarijuanaGovernor John Kasich has finally signed the Ohio medical marijuana law to become effective in the state as plans develop this year.  This is a major signal for the rest of the nation as this traditionally conservative state gives a green light to legal cannabis. The dominos are beginning to fall.

The Marijuana Justice Act, introduced in the U.S. Senate by Democratic New Jersey Senator, Cory Booker on August 2017 seeks to finally strike down the federal prohibition of marijuana across the land. He's got good company. Nationally, more than 60 percent of the American public supports the legalization of weed. This number is up from a meager 31 percent in 2000. Among 18-34-year-old people, the number is nearly 80 percent.

March 1, 2017

jeff sessions pursed lipsWhen we look back on legal marijuana, 10…20…50 years down the line, it may be as a medicine, an age-restricted legal intoxicant, and the impetus of a state vs. federal government battle unseen before in the modern era. While speculation may be able to conjure more anxiety than anything else, the battle for legal marijuana — with Jeff Sessions as Attorney General — is poised to test the extent of State rights in our fine & friendly North American land parcel.

From Licensing to Possession: Colorado Marijuana Laws Compared to New Maine Laws

January 6, 2017

colorado marijuana laws compared to new maine laws logoIt's always fun comparing state-by-state cannabis laws, as it highlights two things: regional culture and the interpretation of federal expectations therein. As you can imagine, the distillation of two legitimate powers — social power from culture, actual power per governmental adherence — in regards to cannabis leads us into a legal territory that is akin to walking on eggshells; an uneven legal landscape foreshadowing anxiety, scrutiny, and oversight (and revenue).

Nationwide Marijuana Laws: New Med and Rec Programs in the US

January 4, 2017

nationwide marijuana laws logoA plant walks into a bar, and the bar loses its liquor license. In Colorado, at least, this is true, following changes in what type of establishments can operate with a liquor license. The plant in question: Cannabis, and since we all know that plants can grow, but not, well, walk, let's assume that our cannabinoid-laden, terpene-oozing plant flower was in the pocket of a bar patron (whom is also at least 21 years old, of course).
